Awana

AWANA  means  “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed”
2 Timothy 2:15 says: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, and who correctly handles the Word of Truth.”   NIV

When? Wednesday nights at 6:15pm to 7:45pm August-May
Registration and Kick Off is August 18, 2010

Who? Children ages 3 through 6th grade (must be 3 by the Alabama Education cut-off date of September 3 and be potty-trained)

Why? Because Children matter to God!
At Church of Living Water we follow the 2 main goals of AWANA:
                1) to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ
                2) to train them to serve Him.
Surveys show that the probability of someone embracing Jesus as his or her Savior is 32% for those between ages 5 & 12; 4% for those between ages 13 – 18; and 6% for people 19 and older.

How? We encourage the children to memorize scripture each week so that they can “hide God’s Word in their hearts” with the knowledge that God will not allow His Word to return void but will use these scriptures that they have learned through many seasons in their lives;

Our directors and leaders teach lessons each week to help children learn about Jesus, God’s love for each of them, how to be saved and what it means to live a life that honors Jesus; and

Our directors, leaders and every AWANA worker spends time loving on the children that come through our doors and modeling the character of Jesus through every aspect of our clubs.

What? We have 3 club opportunities:
§ Cubbies for children ages 3 & 4
§ Sparks for children in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade
§ Truth & Training (TnT) for children in 3rd through 6th Grades.

Clubs start in a general assembly time (known as Flag Time) and then divide up for the following:
§ Handbook Time (where they recite the verses/sections that they have learned over the past week)
§ Council Time (Bible lessons/stories & puppet shows for the Cubbies)
§ Game Time

Special Theme evenings and events are planned throughout the year to keep it exciting and fun – this includes Pajama night, Silly Hair Night and the AWANA Grand Prix to name a few!

Special Ministry Opportunities for the clubbers so that children learn that they can minister to others also – throughout the year we will have food drives (to stock the food pantry); used book drives (to give to local children’s shelters and the area domestic violence shelter); Operation Christmas Child Shoebox drive to send Christmas gifts overseas to children in need; and Adopt-a-Club where we collect monies to help sponsor our partner club in Brazil.
