Mike and Donna Murphy

One of the Church of Living Water’s newest elders is Mike Murphy, a retired Montgomery fire fighter who now owns, along with his wife Donna, White Roofing Company. Donna had worked for the roofing and gutter company for 25 years before they purchased it after Mike’s retirement.

Mike and Donna, who have been members of COLW for six years, were married in 1976, having begun their relationship as high school sweethearts. “It was important to us even as teenagers to date only Christians. Church was very important to us while dating,” Mike said. They have two grown sons, who are both married with committed Christian families, and they also have three grandchildren and another little one expected in November.

The Murphys have served faithfully in three churches as a couple including some work in missions. “I was an active deacon and served as chairman of deacons in Montgomery before moving to our second church in Prattville,” Mike said. “Donna has served in various women's ministries as well as serving on a mission trip to Colombia, South America. We have both served on mission trips on two other occasions within the United States for the Baptist State Mission Board.” Donna is also actively serving in the women’s ministry.

What many friends who know the couple might not realize is that the two have also performed on stage together. “Years ago we sang together in churches for various functions such as worship service, weddings and even funerals.”

Mike and Donna truly love serving the church and the wonderful people who make up COLW. “We fell in love with the people and the contemporary style of worship,” said Mike. “We love having people at our house for anything, such as fellowships or football games.” Mike makes it perfectly clear however that to attend one of his football parties, you’ve got to be an Alabama fan---then he laughs and says, “Just kidding!”

The Murphys strive to lead by example at the church and in their business to show others that a successful Christian marriage is possible. “We believe Christ has always been in the center of our marriage and it has always been our passion to try to influence others with a godly marriage,” added Mike.
